LPHYS'24 32nd Annual International Laser Physics Workshop

LPHYS'24.    Travel Information:

The thirty-second annual International Laser Physics Workshop (LPHYS'24) was held from July 3, 2024 to July 9, 2024 in the city of São Carlos, Brazil, at the São Carlos Institute of Physics, University of São Paulo, hosted by the University of São Paulo.

Throughout the pandemic, we had to adjust the LPHYS Workshop format. From 2021 to 2023, in-person conferences had to be cancelled in favour of online only. We are happy to announce that LPHYS'24 in Brazil will return to its usual in-person format. We look forward, once again, to seeing all participants enjoy meeting old friends and mingling with new participants at the traditional welcome and dinner parties.

Airports and Flights

There are no direct air flights to São Carlos. The closest airports are Campinas-VCP (~160 km) and Guarulhos-GRU (~240 km). The main airport is the Guarulhos International Airport (GRU). Buses are the most common and comfortable means of transportation to São Carlos.

Below is information on how to get to São Carlos from the Guarulhos International Airport.

From the Guarulhos International Airport, please take a bus to the Tiete Bus Terminal. You can use the Airport Bus Service (~45 BRL (~8 USD)). The trip takes about 30 min, depending on traffic conditions.

Organised Transfer

The organised transfer from the airport will be available for participants upon registration using the corresponding form. The transfer is free of charge.

After receiving the arrival times, our local organisers will schedule a timetable with the intention of accommodating all participants. For instance, flights may arrive between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM. In that case, they will arrange for a bus departure at 11:00 AM. Those who arrive early will be kindly asked to wait until the departure time. The same procedure will be followed in the afternoon, according to demand.

It is important to register using the corresponding form, as the busses will only wait for those who express interest in event transportation in advance. Those who express interest in a departure time without confirmation will only be accommodated if there is space available, or they will have to wait for the next bus.

If you prefer not to wait for a few hours, you also have the option to take regular bus lines. The schedules for these buses are provided below for your convenience.

Please be aware that transportation requests must be made at least two weeks before the event (before June 19, 2024), as preparations need to be done in advance.

Upon arrival at the Tiete Bus Station, please proceed to one of the bus lines bound for São Carlos.

There are two bus services from São Paulo to São Carlos: Cometa (~83 BRL (~15 USD)) and Empresa Cruz (~100 BRL (~18 USD)).

On arrival at São Carlos, you can take a taxi to any hotel in town.
