LPHYS'25. Visa Support:
Do you need a visa to travel to Hungary?
Foreign nationals from many countries—including citizens from the EU, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Japan, Canada, and the USA—can travel to Hungary without a visa for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
Check whether you require a visa or not on this site.
If you do need a visa, allow plenty of time to apply in case of delays. The required documents typically include a valid passport, a biometric passport photo, a copy of your return travel ticket, and proof of sufficient funds for your stay.
Requirements for visa-free entry to Hungary
Documents required to enter Hungary include:
- Passport valid for at least three months after the date you leave Hungary—it is advisable to carry a photocopy of your passport's photo page and entry stamp as well.
- Proof of sufficient funds for the duration of your stay.
- Evidence of onward travel, e.g. a return flight ticket.
- Proof of accommodation in Hungary, e.g. a hotel reservation or an official invitation letter.
- You may also need to fulfill health-related entry requirements. Please check the latest guidance from your nearest Hungarian diplomatic mission.
Requirements for visa application for citizens from non visa-free countries
If you are not from a visa-exempt country, you must apply for a Schengen Visa before traveling to Hungary. Applications should be submitted through the nearest Hungarian consulate. Find a Hungarian consulate in your country on this site.
